About BikeTourFrance.net

Eat. Sleep. Roll. Repeat.

I'm John — the cyclist behind BikeTourFrance.net. I started this to help fellow riders plan great cycling tours in France.

Planning a self-guided cycling tour can get complicated quickly. Where to ride, how far to go each day, where you'll eat lunch, where you'll sleep, how trains fit into the plan, and when to schedule sightseeing all interact. Route design, timing, lodging, food, and logistics are tightly connected, and small decisions early in the plan can ripple through the entire trip.

Over the years I've planned and ridden multiple self-planned, self-guided cycling tours across France, learning through experience what works and what tends to cause problems later in the day, or later in the trip.

Outside of touring, I lead rides for Cascade Bicycle Club in Seattle, work in enterprise technology, and hold DELF B2 certification in French. I'm not a camper — I prefer a good route, a real bed, a warm shower, and a solid meal at the end of the day.

BikeTourFrance.net is where I share what I've learned with other riders who want to make their own French cycling tour happen. I don't charge for guidance. Tips are never expected, but always appreciated.

Planning a self-guided tour in France

The idea of going on a cycling tour in France is exciting. The idea of planning and executing one can feel daunting. Most people are trying to figure out two things: First, can I actually pull this off? (Spoiler: yes, you can.) Second, do I want to do what it takes? Some of us thrive on figuring this stuff out. Some of us would rather just ride for an hour and call it a day. This is for the first group.

You are invited to book a 15-minute 1:1 discussion with me about your plan. My preference is that you attend a webinar first prior to booking an appointment but I also understand schedules and constraints. I find these conversations more productive if you arrive with some idea of where you'd like to go and a few questions prepared in advance.

You're welcome to contact me here if scheduling conflicts prevent you from attending a webinar or booking a short meeting. If you have an urgent or time-sensitive request, find a way to book time on my calendar directly. Otherwise, expect a slow response.
